Forensic Dentistry Seminar

June 27, 2008 ODEFA, Kerr, 3M/ESPE, Orascoptic and Dentsply/Caulk sponsored a Forensic Dentistry Seminar in Columbus, Ohio at the Crowne Plaza North.This was an all day seminar from 8:30 - 4:30 and participants received 7
CE credits.

Franklin D Wright D.M.D., D-ABFO did an exceptional job presenting the course material and answering all questions from the participants. Dr. Wright's expertise in dentistry and dental forensics expanded all our minds where dentistry interacts with the law.

I received great reviews from the participants and several of them wanting to do a full day mass disaster workshop. There were 33 in attendance which included 22 ODEFA members, 4 dentist, 4 hygienist, 2 EFDA's non-members, and 1 assistant.

ODEFA raffled off several door prizes: starbucks, visa gift card, ODEFA CE Certificate, EFDA's Create Beautiful Smile's T-Shirts and a pair of orascoptic loops. Our dental sponsors were also on hand, with booths set-up outside the lecture hall to answer any questions, present dental materials and techniques to the participants. A light lunch was provided and catered by the Crowne Plaza North.

Night At The Races

On May 16, 2008, ODEFA held it's annual spring fling "Night At The Races" at Northfield Park in Memory of Linda Gibbens-West. There were 23 people in attendance and it was a good time for all. Everyone sat around socializing, catching up on old times, eating good food, watched the Cavs win and of course betting on the races, which paid off for quite a few of us. The 8th race was named in honor of Linda Gibbens-West, who started this tradition many years ago. Several ODEFA members gathered in the winners circle to have a group picture taken with the winning horse and driver. I will continue this tradition in memory of Linda for many years to come.

ODEFA Spring FLING - NIGHT AT THE RACES

Come join us for an exciting evening filled with food, fun, and winnings at Northfield Park on May 16th, 2008. A full course buffet style dinner at the clubhouse consists of 2 carved entrees, plus 5 entrees, 2 pastas, potato and vegetable, 2 soups, bread and butter, salad, dessert bar, and Ice Cream station, coffee or tea. The cost of dinner is $20.75 per person, which includes admission to the clubhouse, general parking, live racing program, sales tax and gratuity. The only additional cost will be any betting you wish to do and bar service.

The North Coast Spring Meeting
Sponsored by The Greater Cleveland Dental Society

ODEFA has a booth every year but this year we sold a variety of different things. Our biggest selling items this year were our T-Shirts and Sweatshirts. The shirts read "EFDA's Create Beautiful Smiles." If you are interested in a shirt we have several left. There just might be your size and color left. T-shirts are $10.00 and Sweatshirts are $15.00. I love attending these booth events because I get to meet some members and put faces to names I see all year long on paper. We had 14 members join this year at the booth. Eleven of them were membership renewals and three were New Members.

We talked with Representatives of all sorts of dental products that want to help with some more Continuing Education Seminars for our members.

So if you know Barb Telfer, Angela Frase, or Phyllis Skelley give them a big thank you. They raised $375.00 for your organization. That could cover a hall for the next Seminar that ODEFA puts on for you.

Dentsply Seminar
Another Successful Seminar

On April 30, 2008 ODEFA held a hands on restorative workshop. The seminar took place at Patterson Dental in Middleburg Heights, Ohio. We had 18 ODEFA members in attendance and 1 Dr. Dentsply, Tracey Dimond: Senior Territory Manager and Dee Anna Seaholts: Senior Territory Manager co-sponsored this event. Our speaker Kenneth Spatz, who has been with the Caulk division for 23 years delivered the presentation in a very informative and knowledgeable manner. Dentsply generously donated 3 composite intro kits as door prizes (Ceram X Duo & Mono). ODEFA also contributed door prizes ($25 gas card, bath & body gift basket and EFDA's create beautiful smiles t-shirt). All attendees enjoyed the course and I received great evaluations back. A light dinner was provided and catered by Panera Bread.

Thanks to everyone who attended, Dentsply, Dee Anna Seaholts, Tracey Dimond for co- sponsoring and your hard work helping make this a success, Patterson Dental for the facility (You guys are great), and Phyllis Skelley for always volunteering and helping ODEFA out whenever you're needed.

Give Kids A Smile Day

Barbara Telfer, CDA, EFDA and Dr. Jeffrey Caldwall are pictured offering services during a Give Kids a Smile event on April 26, 2008 in the Cleveland area. Approximately 60 students were treated from area schools. They had their teeth checked, sealants placed and a fluoride treatment. A tooth imprint and saliva kit for DNA was also done. The kit was sent home to the children's parents to keep.
